Cleaning & Repair

My goal is ensure that your typewriter gets brought back to proper working condition so that you can use it to create for years to come.

Depending on the condition of your machine, this might mean…

  • A relatively simple cleaning and a new ribbon

  • A full deep cleaning and some adjustments

  • Repair or replacement of damaged parts

We open for business July 18, 2026. After that you can bring your typewriter in during our open shop hours, or schedule a visit on one of our repair days, and I’ll take look it over (for no cost), and given you an estimate of both cost and turnaround time.

Please see below for the types of machines that I can and can’t service. If you’re unsure where your typewriter fits in these categories, feel free to reach out before making the trip.

What I can service

  • Manual typewriters from approx 1900s - 1980s

  • Electrics from the 1960s to ~ 1970s

What I can probably help with

  • Manual machines pre ~1900. Prior to about 1900, inventors were still trying to figure out how a typewriter should work, and what it should look like. No two “keyboards” looked the same, and the typing mechanisms were often quite eccentric. These early machines are beautiful pieces, but depending on parts they might need, I may not be able to get them back into full working order.

What I Can’t Service

  • IBM Selectrics

  • Electronic typewriters from ~ 1980s and later
